Teaching the Global Seminar:
“Strategies for Internationalization @Home”
with
Professor Dr. Rainer Haas
Institute for Marketing & Innovation University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna
« International experience in a global economy is a self-evident prerequisite for a successful professional career. […] But despite these growing efforts to support internationalization at higher education levels, there is still a significant share of students never leaving their home country for study purposes. »
Haas and Harriet 2013
In his talk, Professor Haas will address the challenge of providing students with an international and intercultural experience when they are not able to participate in traditional exchange schemes. As student mobility has become severely limited by the global pandemic for the near future, furthering strategies for alternative forms of student and staff mobility, including the concept of internationalization at home, has acquired a new sense of urgency. Professor Haas will share his experiences and insights on the didactic concept, the learning cycle, case study based teaching approach, and the organizational issues behind a « global seminar ».
The EPICURtalks lecture will be followed by a discussion with Dr. Steven Randall, Leader of the EPICUR Work Package on Liberal Arts and Sciences Development, University College Freiburg. There will be time to network and get to know fellow teachers and lecturers from the eight partner institutions after the official part of the event.
