EPICUR contributes to public event of the European Council

European University Alliances: European Lighthouses at the Heart of Regional Innovation Ecosystems

On Tuesday, 08. December 2020, the Ministry for Science, Research and Arts of the State of Baden-Württemberg, organized the public event “European University Alliances: European Lighthouses at the Heart of Regional Innovation Ecosystems”. Minister Theresia Bauer had invited representatives of the five Higher Education Institutions from Baden-Württemberg that participate within European University Alliances to join the event and to present their alliances.

Following talks by Manuel Heitor, Minister for Science, Technology and Higher education in Portugal and a Panel Discussion with Dr. Simone Schwanitz, Head of Department, Ministry of Science, Research and Arts of Baden-Württemberg, Peter Greisler, Head of Department, Federal Ministry of Education and Research and Sophia Eriksson-Waterschoot, Director, Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture, European Commission highlighting the benefits of the European Universities Initiatives for higher education more broadly, each university had the opportunity to present itself by highlighting particular challenges they face in the development of the European Universities.

The EPICUR partners from Baden-Württemberg, the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT) and the University of Freiburg, shared their views and ideas on successful implementation and instruments with video clips on the following topics:

“Research, teaching and innovation as the cornerstone of the alliances” (KIT) and “Between inclusivity and excellence” (ALU-FR).
